Overview
Activity Insights is a redesigned dashboard inside Settings → Insights that transforms your screen history into actionable productivity data. It answers questions like How focused was I today?, Which apps consumed most of my time?, and When am I most distracted?
Every metric is computed locally from your existing recording data — nothing leaves your Mac.
Focus Score
At the top of the dashboard, your Focus Score summarizes your productivity as a single number from 0 to 100. The score is a weighted composite:
- 60% — Deep Work Ratio: the proportion of active time spent in focus sessions lasting 30 minutes or more within a single app
- 40% — Low App Switching: fewer app switches per hour results in a higher score
Beside the score gauge, you'll see summary pills showing your deep work percentage, average session length, and switches per hour. A comparison badge shows how today's score compares to your previous period.
Activity by Hour
The hourly activity chart provides a stacked bar breakdown of your screen time across the day. Each bar represents one hour, segmented by your top 5 apps. A compact color legend maps each app to its bar segment.
Use this chart to identify your peak productive hours and spot patterns — like a morning coding block or an afternoon meeting cluster.
Screen Time
A horizontal bar chart ranks your top 10 apps by foreground time. Each bar shows the app icon alongside its total duration (e.g., "2h 15m"). Periods without screen activity are automatically excluded from the totals.
The section header displays your combined screen time for the selected period.
Focus Sessions
Focus Sessions are periods of 30 minutes or more spent in a single app without switching. The timeline chart shows each session as a horizontal block, labeled with its duration.
Longer blocks indicate sustained concentration. If no sessions meet the 30-minute threshold, the section will show "No extended focus periods yet" — a signal to minimize app switching.
App Switching
The App Switching section quantifies how often you change between apps:
- Per Hour — average number of app switches per active hour
- Total — total switches during the selected period
- Peak Hour — the hour with the most switching (your most fragmented time)
- Calmest — the hour with the fewest switches (your most focused time)
Below the metric cards, a sparkline trend visualizes switches per hour across the day, making it easy to spot distraction-heavy periods at a glance.
Custom Date Ranges
The period selector at the top of the dashboard offers five options:
- Today
- Yesterday
- This Week
- This Month
- Custom — select any start and end date
Switching periods refreshes all charts and metrics instantly. Use Custom ranges to compare specific workdays or analyze trends across project sprints.
